Sunday Review 06.04.17

In case you weren't able to be with us for our time together yesterday, here's what you missed:

Worship Gathering

  • During our morning service, Pastor Rob examined the ordinance of baptism. We saw that baptism is reserved for believers (Acts 2:38,41), and that the ceremony itself is powerless to save (Rom. 10:9-10). Baptism should be practiced by immersion, and has a four-fold purpose:
    • Symbolism - an outward display of an inward reality
    • Public Testimony - showing the picture of 2 Cor. 5:17,21
    • Obedience - believers are commanded to be baptized (Matt. 28:19-20)
    • Identification - believers were in Christ when He was crucified, buried, and raised to life (Rom. 6:3-5)

The Gospel Project

  • We reviewed six of the Ten Commandments that focus on honoring God in our relationships (Exodus 20:12-17). We saw that God calls us to honor Him by honoring our father and mother, by loving our neighbors as ourselves, and by cultivating a heart of contentment. We were reminded that the law points us to Christ, as He alone obeyed each of these commands perfectly. And through the gospel, His perfect record has been credited to our account, and His Spirit now empowers us to fulfill these same commandments (Romans 8:4).
