Sunday Review 06.18.17

In case you weren't able to be with us for our time together yesterday, here's what you missed:

Worship Gathering

  • Pastor Rob continued our study of the fruit of the Spirit with a focus on peace as illustrated in Mark's account of Jesus calming the sea (Mark 4:35-41). We observed that the fearful response of the disciples was natural, but that Jesus' response to the same circumstances was supernatural (v. 38). We saw Jesus reveal the disciples' unbelief as their real problem (v. 40), and noted that the removal of external turbulence didn't remove all of the disciples' fears (v. 41). Looking more broadly at the concept of peace, we saw that God dwells in perpetual peace because He Himself is peace (Rom. 15:33), and that He will one day bring about an eternal peace (Rev. 21:1-7). Lastly, we were encouraged with the good news that God is willing to share His peace with us (John 16:33), and challenged not to settle for anything less than the supernatural peace produced by the Holy Spirit.
