Sunday Review 05.21.17

In case you weren't able to be with us for our time together yesterday, here's what you missed:

The Gospel Project

  • We learned from the account of the Israelites' worship of the golden calf that idol-worshipers distort true worship (Ex. 32:1-6), deserve God's condemnation (Ex. 32:7-10), and are in need of a mediator (Ex. 32:11-14). We saw the sin of our own hearts pictured in Israel's behavior, but also saw Moses' intercession on their behalf as pointing ahead to the work of our great Mediator, the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Tim. 2:5).

Worship Gatherings

  • Pastor Rob continued our study through the book of Galatians, focusing on chapter 5, verses 16-18. We saw that the Holy Spirit is able to prevent us from acting on our sinful passions (Gal. 5:16), and that the ongoing battle for our affections, although frustrating, actually reveals the presence of spiritual life (Gal. 5:17). We also saw that the Holy Spirit enables us to fulfill the demands of the law (Gal. 5:18). You can watch the message here: Competition for Our Affections
  • During our evening service, Pastor Bill continued his survey of the book of Ecclesiastes with an emphasis on God's appointed times for all of life (Eccl. 3:1-8).
