This Sunday at Cornerstone Church...

Mankind prefers autonomous control over life. Solomon has come to learn well that our lives are under the sovereign control of God from birth to death (Eccl. 3:1-8). God is at work bringing forth His beautiful purposes (v. 11a). When life is properly observed, man recognizes that there is more than this physical universe (“He has put eternity into man’s heart” v. 11), but we also realize that life is beyond our control (vv. 11b; 22b). While we do not have ultimate control, we know that God’s purposes will stand. This produces reverence for God (v. 14). An awareness of God’s awesome sovereignty is necessary to prepare us to meet Him as our Judge (vv. 16-22). When our self-reliance is stripped down and replaced with an awareness of God’s sovereign control, the proper response is joyful, humble worship. Come and worship our sovereign God!
