This Sunday at Cornerstone Church...

In the next section of Ecclesiastes (5:8-6:12), Solomon will explain that man’s selfishness is clearly seen (5:8-17), and that this selfishness does not result in satisfaction (5:10-12; 6:1-7). But there is one who knows what is good for man (6:8-12). Solomon states the importance of receiving as a grace gift the ability to view life, work, and possessions as gifts from God (5:18-20). When we live our lives in recognition of God’s sovereign care, we can live out our days in such joy that we do not look back at former days (5:20; see also 7:10). Often we find ourselves with the anxieties and cares of Martha — what should I do? why am I alone in the work? Instead, we should live each day as a gift, enjoy the contours of our lives, knowing there is a day when all things will be settled in and through Jesus Christ.
